Derek Jarman was canonised by The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at his home, Prospect Cottage, Dungeness on 22nd September 1991. He became St Derek of Dungeness of The Order of Celluloid Knights. As a film maker, artist, writer and queer activist he became one of Britain’s foremost cultural figures of 20th Century. He died from AIDS on 19th February 1994.
